Textpattern allows many methods for accomplishing the same thing. Many methods for developing an image gallery now exist. The puzzling thing for me has always been the lack of support for default tags available to access the basic content contained in the database for images. There are no native tags for thumbnails and capitions for whatever reason, for example, txp:article_thumb and txp:image_caption.
Thankfully, there are plugins that can perform these functions and others in developing a means of displaying images and thumbnail galleries.
Following is a list of examples of galleries built with Textpattern:
The best implementations of the gallery seem to be based on issue 170 from A List Apart by Jeremy Keith. Jeremy has an article about developing a Javascript Image Gallery on his site.
There are also several examples of how one might accomplish an image gallery on the Textpattern Forum.
And there are some articles at Textpattern Resources:

I have been wondering whether it might be possible to get around the problem of not being able to use a section/category/title URL scheme in a default install of Textpattern without using plugins.
Dean Allen’s article on the subject of multiple installations Textpattern Forum dates back about a year ago. I thought I might just try this out.
From what I can tell, this technique no longer works. The FAQ on the Textpattern site seems to reiterate this.

I can by no means take any credit for Rob Sable’s excellent database manager plugin, rss_admin_db_manager, for Textpattern, but I did have a hand in testing it out.
I am privileged to have a link from the plugin to this very site as one of the individuals who donated $20 or more to the plugin ransom. It is such an important tool for developing and maintaining a Textpattern website, that it was well worth the time and cash for the good of my sites, my clients and the Textpattern community.

I’ll have to remember to point working copies of Textpattern to the new directory for the version 4.0 branch as posted by kusor at the weblog:
svn switch http://svn.textpattern.com/stable/4.0
According to Dean, there were 2521 downloads of Textpattern in the first 36 hours (not including svn updates, I imagine).
